Wellbeing can be created by practicing the exercises which produce Wellbeing. Laughter is the simplest and most powerful exercise that all human beings can do to improve Wellbeing.
Laughing is innate.
The Wellbeing Laughter Club is a hilarious and fun recreation
activity that creates sustained roaring hearty laughter. The activity is a unique combination of laughter, simple movement, and play. Based upon Laughter Yoga the club is entertaining and provides excellent low impact aerobic exercise. The Wellbeing Laughter Club makes genuine roaring laughter possible for everyone regardless of age, illness, or ability. Everyone can participate because the laughter is generated without the use of jokes or humor. By untying laughter from humor, everyone re-learns to laugh joyfully just as we did as children.
Children laugh 150 -300 times a day from an inner place of wellbeing. They laugh because it is their nature to be joyful. They laugh for no reason. Children have yet to develop a sense of humor, as humor is based upon a developped intellect. As children grow up, during the socialization process they learn that it is not OK to laugh for no reason. (If you laughed loudly for no reason while shopping in a supermarket people would think you were crazy!) They instead develop a sense of humor and learn to laugh from the mind. With Humor, something must strike the mind as funny in order for laughter to occur. Humor is learned. All children eventually switch from the joyful laughter of childhood to the intellectual laughter of adults. Unfortunately learned or conditioned laughter limits when we laugh and when it is acceptable for us to laugh. Laughter Clubs which practice create a socially acceptable and safe place for laughter.
Laughing out loud for no reason can be awkward at first. This is because the socialization process teaches us not to do so. With practice this awkwardness disappears, making it easy to laugh out loud unconditionally just as we did as children. Practicing laughing for no reason actually clears the layers of inhibitions, programming, and mental roadblocks allowing joyful natural laughter to emerge.
Why Laugh?

The benefits of laughter are quite amazing. Research and years of anecdotal evidence demonstrate that laughter clearly plays a role in healing, staying healthy, managing stress reactions, and maintaining emotional balance. True-mirthful laughter shifts perspective and contributes to mind-body balance. Benefits include:
* Relieves Stress and Tension
* Uplifts Mood
* Releases “Happy Hormones”, (endorphins)
* Reduces Stress Hormone Levels
* Creates Relaxation
* Invigorates
* Strengthens the Immune System
* Improves Blood Oxygenation
* Improves Blood Circulation
* Reduces Pain
* Reduces Blood Pressure
* Lowers Blood Sugar
* Relieves Constipation
* Clears the lungs by dislodging mucous plugs
* Laughter is an instant vacation. When we laugh we are present in the moment and not caught up in the past or worried about the future.
* Laughter is exercise as it increases the heart rate and stimulates deep breathing.
Laughter seems to be an innate healing mechanism.
The benefits of attending Laughter Clubs include:
* Excellent stress management which builds tools to manage stress
* Brings More laughter into our lives. We learn to laugh instead of being upset.
* Creates relaxation and inner calm in the short and long term
* Sustained laughter temporarily quiets the mind
* Excellent low impact aerobic exercise
* Remarkably improves mood and cultivates positive emotions instilling attitudes of optimism, tolerance, kindness, forgiveness, and compassion.
* Feelings of self worth, self esteem and self confidence are enhanced
* Laughter, like humor appears to enhance learning as it creates positive emotions which improve memory.
* Laughter is a natural mechanism for bringing people together. When people laugh together they get along better. “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people”. -Victor Borge
* Participating in Laughter Clubs enhances self expression. It appears to do so by easing self consciousness: clearing the layers of inhibitions, programming, and mental roadblocks that were created through social conditioning.
* Laughter Clubs bypass the intellectual systems that normally act as a brake on natural laughter. By untying laughter from humor, everyone re-learns to laugh for no reason just like we did as children. This allows joyful natural laughter to re-emerge. Through Laughter Clubs we can reconnect with that inner place of joy and wellbeing that we had as a child.
* The Mystics, Saints, and Sages teach that laughter opens up the heart. When the heart is open, a life is open. We feel love. We express love. We love ourselves. We love others.
People who regularly attend Laughter Clubs claim that they physically feel better, have more energy, enjoy life more.
Ultimately, laughter can be viewed as an innate healing mechanism. We can gain insight into how laughter truly heals from a Yiddish Proverb, "Laughter is to the Soul, what soap is to the Body". This suggests that laughter is an inner cleansing mechanism. How laughter cleanses can be understood by viewing the human being from the forefront of medicine, the Human Energy Field (HEF). The human being, like everything else in the
Universe is fundamentally made of energy and the HEF has been documented through research.
Our thoughts and emotions are also energy. The research of Dr. Masuru Emoto has proven that thoughts and emotions profoundly affect the structure of physical matter.
As humans, we often store negative emotions, such as anger, sadness, and fear; (rather than expressing them). Research has shown that negative emotions impair the function of the immune system which can lead to illness and disease. Eighty-five percent of illness appears to be created by unresolved emotional issues. Laughter appears to provide a way for these emotions to be harmlessly released. Laughter is cathartic; literally we laugh the negative emotions out. Laughter is then a built in mechanism for releasing negative emotions and upsets by cleansing our energy system. Laughing appears to prevent illness.
